Love is the ultimate state of human behavior where compassion prevails and kindness rules. - Yogi Bhajan
In an age of information overload, it is so easy to live in the head. Part of my daily practice is getting out of that space. Dropping out of the mind and into my heart. It is from there that I can live without fear and channel the greatest amount of compassion for others. It helps me stay in flow, see beauty, trust, love and tap into my intuition.
Some of my favorite tools for opening the space between my chest include yoga (vinyasa and kundalini), listening to others share their truth, chanting and making art. Since kundalini yoga is the practice that I am learning to place my life around, I thought I would share a mantra that opens up the heart chakra.
"Humme Hum Brahm Hum" means “We are we, we are God.” It is said to be the mantra of the spirit, with the power to open, lift and elevate. Try it out and watch at the sound “Hummm" vibrates through the chest. In kundalini, we chant in specific time sequences: 3, 5, 7, 11, 22, 31, 62 minutes. Pick one that sounds reasonable for you and give it a go. Chanting along to a recorded version of the mantra is very helpful, especially in the beginning. You can find several versions by typing the mantra into YouTube. I hope this experience allows you to feel deeper into your heart, your true nature and the almighty power of love.
